HKP Martial Arts Student Steps Into the Ring at the ProKick Gym, Belfast

At HKP Martial Arts, we believe martial arts is about growth, confidence, pushing personal limits and expressing yourself through your learning. For some students, that journey eventually leads to stepping into the ring and experiencing competition.

Recently, HKP’s very own Tye took that exciting step when he competed in his first full contact kickboxing fight with low kicks, at the renowned ProKick Gym in Belfast.

This was not only a huge moment for Tye personally, but also a proud milestone for HKP Martial Arts as our first student to compete in a fight representing our Daventry Kickboxing and Muay Thai club.

Not only was it Tye’s first experience of ring competition, but the event was held where his dad, Paul Wordley trained and fought for back in the mid 90’s, after moving to Belfast to train with Billy. Tye had the opportunity to make a weekend around the competition, meeting Billy Murray and some old school members whom Paul grew up training with who remain to this day family. The beauty of martial arts. Needless to say Tye soaked up the experience like a sponge.

Training and Preparation

Preparing for a first fight requires dedication, discipline, and many hours of training. At HKP Martial Arts in Daventry, students develop their skills through structured training that focuses on technique, fitness, and mental strength.

Tye showed fantastic commitment in the lead-up to the fight, working hard in every training session and continually pushing himself to improve. Training six days a week, countless rounds of sparring and conditioning.

Stepping into the ring for the first time is never easy, but Tye approached the challenge with determination and courage, representing HKP Martial Arts with pride.

A Proud Milestone for HKP Martial Arts

Tye fought against Luis Reed, an upcoming young fighter from ProKick, in a 3 x 2 minute bought. From the first bell the fight was full of excitement. Tye fought with courage and heart. He defended and countered as he had trained for and showed the skill he has acquired from the dedication over the years. Two very different fighters and styles, the bout went the distance and Luis was awarded the decision.

Whilst Tye was of course dissapointed with the result, the experience of both the weekend and the fight itself has showed him that his resolve is unbreakable and that he enjoyed the entire exoperience. This is what makes a martial artist here at HKP, showing that when things don’t go your way you knuckle down, carry on and move forward.

This fight marks an exciting moment in the journey of HKP Martial Arts. Seeing one of our students compete for the first time was a proud moment for the club, our coaches, and the whole HKP community, many of whom tuned in to watch the event live on prokick.tv, where you can still sign in and watch the whole event.

Moments like this highlight how martial arts training can build not only physical skill but also confidence, resilience, and personal achievement.

The Future of Competition at HKP

Following this experience, HKP Martial Arts hopes to become more involved in supporting students who wish to progress into competitive fighting when they are ready.

While competition is never required, it can be an exciting pathway for students who want to challenge themselves and take their martial arts training to the next level.

As our club continues to grow in Daventry and Northamptonshire, we look forward to helping more students develop their skills, confidence, and passion for martial arts.

Well Done Tye

Competing in your first fight is a huge achievement, and everyone at HKP Martial Arts is incredibly proud of Tye for stepping into the ring and representing the club.

Tye now has made an impression on everyone in Belfast, and moving forward will certainly be welcomed back for the next inter club show that they hold.

This is just the beginning of an exciting journey for both Tye and the future of competition at HKP.
